Love Brewed Across Continents
How It All Started
Gloria, a dynamic force in the beauty industry, dazzled international audiences with her events and makeup artistry. Her career led her to meet Jarmo, a Finnish engineer working on projects in Africa, especially Kenya. They fell in love and decided to buy a house with a farm. Jarmo, inspired by his experiences in Rwanda, was eager to plant coffee and macadamia. Gloria’s bond with coffee began in her childhood, brewing coffee for her family each morning, especially for her meticulous brother. Their shared passion for coffee has now blossomed into a thriving farming venture
From cornfields to a coffee haven
When It All Started
Sakami was established in 2005 as a family owned venture initially as a rental field for corn. Eventually the co-founders settled down on coffee as the main cash crop, intercropping them with their macadamia trees.
Sakami has since ventured into avocado production on both it’s main and entirely organic farm, Sabata – both growing Haas variety avocados.
Sakami also practices apiculture, keeping bees for honey and pollinating the flowering plants.
Sustainability in Every Step
Farming the Future, Sustainably
At Sakami Farm, we practice agroforestry by intercropping macadamia trees with coffee, safeguarding indigenous trees and wetlands, and maintaining natural bush sections. We place beehives around the farm and avoid using harmful pesticides and herbicides. Waste like coffee pulp and macadamia husks feed earthworms, whose castings we use as manure or foliar feed.
Water from coffee processing is treated and used for irrigation. Additionally, we use mineral fertilizers to replenish nutrients lost during harvest.
We employ solar energy for almost all activity on the farm.
